Manni Dee has received DJ support from Daedelus, Lorn, Om Unit, Alix Perez, Dbridge & Throwing Snow to name a few. He’s also earned accolades from publications such as Mixmag, Hyponik & XLR8R.
His compositions cleverly anchor stark, machine-like percussion in unprocessed field recordings and abstract noise sources, toying with the conventional boundaries between sound and music. The mixture of impromptu organic recordings and pin-sharp manmade elements simultaneously humanises and adds an air of detachment to the work; a testament to Manni’s command of texture and flair for sound design.
It’s no exercise in concept over content either; his Shifting EP (Hit & Hope) won a 9/10 review from Mixmag and topped Juno‘s techno chart on release, with it’s sophisticated, functional take on the 130BPM area.
The highly anticipated Pareidolia EP on Black Sun Records speaks volumes of Manni’s ability & adeptness. He continues in the same vein with his uncompromising approach to straight up techno with the four track EP Being & Nothingness, coming in the summer of 2013 on Shades Recordings.
“With this mix I wanted to create a listening experience that explores the relationship between sound & noise, & how certain textures & rhythms can be translated to a club environment whilst maintaining the characteristics & depth to be appreciated at home. When does noise become music & how far can we strip things back for them to still resonate with our primitive core? I think the natural rhythm of everyday life serves as a constant composition, & with this mix I’ve incorporated tracks that I feel blur the lines between real world sound, noise & musicality, whether intentional or not. For me, certain tracks in the mix create a constant shift in awareness through repetition, which results in a very inclusive listening experience. I feel what ties the mix together is the common thread of textures & sound design used imaginatively within a certain framework.”
I’ve included three tracks from myself. Romantic Self (Black Sun Records), Surface Tension (Unreleased) & Objective Form (Forthcoming Shades Recordings).
