“For this mix I’ve carefully chosen a wide array of tracks, from the present, the past and from my labels’ catalogue, to portray where The Public Stand is coming from and going to. You never know, Mr Booth knows better than anyone else: techno is an Electronic Exploration”

“I do feel a tad guilty for ignoring the EE mantra “A deviously crafted patchwork of carefully sewn rhythms, sonic contortions and delicate melodies”. Therefor I closed off with a track from the TPS catalogue that in fact does have a delicate melody: The Subdermic – Electric Cabaret, a track so well-orchestrated with such a strong theme, I can easily see myself in my 60′s sipping some cognac while listening to it.”

“Looking back to this mix it’s exactly what I am about, fresh music that hails from the long tradition of techno: Odd stuff from new guys clouds, to Mr. Jones who in my opinion invented a whole new way of arranging a techno. But also classics from Blake Baxter and A Guy Called Gerald. “Valentines Theme” of his Trip City EP (for a long time my most sought after EP as only fifty copies were pressed up, luckily one of my listeners from the show passed it on to me, oh the joy of having a show). Even found a way to sneak in some Dj Deeon, had to.”

Recorded at The Public Stand HQ (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) using Serato, Pioneer DJM Mixer, CDJ’s – No Digital Edits, No Analogue Edits – Recorded in one take through Apogee converters, gentle post processing with Fabfilter Pro-L

“I chose to focus on the less dance floor orientated sounds for this mix and instead tried to compile a selection of tunes that I would want to listen to. It is a mix highlighting some of the music currently coming out of Bristol that I find most exciting as well as tracks that have informed the music we make as Zhou. I tried to capture the atmosphere of the music scene in Bristol at the moment, not just putting in Young Echo Collective stuff but also trying to showcase people like Ossia (Peng Sound) and Hicha (definitely one to keep an eye on!). I also tried to keep it relatively short as I didn’t want to confuse things with too may disparate sounds – There are a few forthcoming bits in there too so watch out for those.” – ‘Amos Zhou’

Collaborative album “Young Echo Collective” – ‘Nexus’ from the Young Echo crew is due out via RAMP on May 27th — Next gig is July 19th at Exchange in Bristol

Bio: Zhou is a UK soundsytem act formed of digital stepper Ishan Sound and Amos, one half of Hip Hop duo Jabu.
Both are members of Bristol based crew Young Echo, whose members also include El Kid , Kahn & Vessel, as well as a sprawling extended group of Djs and vocalists.
Shows are focused around a continuation of soundsystem culture and an aim to uphold certain key values in a time where dance music in general is moving in increasingly rapid cycles.
2013 will see the second physical release via the mighty Punch Drunk and a number of individual and collaborative releases including a Young Echo album with RAMP

Bass Music producer from Tokyo, ENA is a major player of the Japanese underground Dubstep and Drum & Bass scenes for more than a decade. Taking influences from early Drum & Bass productions, Rave sound and Abstract Hip Hop, quoting names such as Photek, Krush, Source Direct and Renegade Hardware, ENA is recognized for his tight production technique and massive audio dynamics, as well as for his Djing selection and technical quality. Uncompromising, forward-thinking and unique, his releases on 7even Recordings, CX:Digital, HE:Digital, Hymen, Horizons Music, supported by Pangaea, Laurent Garnier, Loxy, Consequence, Distal and Peverelist to name but a few, have pushed his profile on the international scene, notably being asked in June 2012 by Resident Advisor to provide the episode n°313 of their acclaimed RA podcast series.

Beneath – Illusions EP – [Keysound] – After a brace of instant-classic white label drops on his own No Symbols imprint, Beneath graduates to Keysound with an EP of ice-cold post-UKF murderers. Rhythmically, ‘Prangin”s broken techno flex feels entirely of the moment, but you can detect something of the dark rollage of early Krust productions in there too; it’s all arranged with a simplicity designed to come at you hard even over the weakest pirate signal, a shot of pure poison straight to soundboy head. ‘Blonde’ and ‘Tribulations’ are heavier on the snake-hipped soca syncopations, but nonetheless still infused with a sense of the deepest dread, while ‘Wonz’ is quality avant-garage, atonal piano and synth strains jostling over a nicely greased, El-B-style riddim, and ‘Illusions”s jagged snares, woodblock accents and desolate atmospherics put us in mind of Loefah’s earliest and best productions.

Beneath – Duty / Texers [Tectonic] – Beneath brings his murky dubstep and Funky hybrids to Tectonic in heavy style. ‘Duty’ sets up for the stagger and waggle crew with loose drums offsetting old skool Loefah-style subs and plangent synth shapes that open and envelope an uncoiling, industrial-strength steppers’ groove. ‘Texers’ flexes out on a badboy rollers tip; elliptical bass and hardbody snares synch under darkside Ed Rush-style synthlines and a chirping early ’00s grime hook that’s got us by the balls.
