Jus Wan is a newcomer from San Francisco, where the dubstep scene is apparently thriving. “Out of the countless demos and mp3s we get sent,” a press release opines, “Jus Wan instantly stood out with his blend of 2 step rhythm, techno soul and deep subs…” A deep, rolling track that owes a great debt to techno but remains first and foremost dubstep, ‘Action Potential’ first came to attention on Appleblim’s Dubstep Allstars Vol. 6 compilation earlier in the year, and will see a 12″ release next month, backed with the equally engrossing ‘Affletic’: Quote: FACT Magazine
JUS WAN – The Crossing / Flashpoint
Tube
10″ // £5.99
NOW: £3.50
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Nov 2008
Catalogue Number: TUBE10003
Following in the slipstream of his well recieved 12″ for Applepips last week, Jus Wan contributes two experimentally riddmic cuts to the well curated Tube10 imprint outta Holland. Tube10 has a knack of picking up on less rave friendly, but ultimately more esoteric efforts from the likes of TRG and Spherix, with Jus Wan’s ‘The Crossing’ fitting the vibe perfectly.
Steering away from the slightly breaks infected cuts for Applepips, Wan works on a pattern with an altogether more crafty flow debted to post 2-step and R’n'B, and introduces a beautifully shimmering guitar line with perfect timing, making for a nicely understated but clever cut. ‘Flashpoint’ on the flip follows the vibe into a more defined dub techno route a skipping pattern developing into rolling subs with uptempo techno compatibility. Check!
JUS WAN – Action Potential / Affletic
APPLE PIPS
12″ // £5.99
DUBSTEP / GRIME / FUNKY
Released: Nov 2008
Catalogue Number: PIPS003
Appleblim’s Applepips imprint maintains the pressure built from the brilliant first two installments with a fresh 12″ from unearthed talent, Jus Wan. His ‘Action Potential’ track was used by Appleblim in his winning Tempa Allstars 6 mix CD and comes here backed with the much anticipated techy killer ‘Affletic’. ‘Action Potential’ stretches the dubstep imagination to include breaks style beats laid into skipping dubstep compatible patterns with mellow dub chords lending an airy and spacious vibe.
We’re far more into ‘Affletic’ on the flip though, definitely one for all the aerobic dancing crew with a smart combo of bouncing metallic synthlines ripped right out of the T++/Monolake textbook leading to a cinematic John Carpenter-ish breakdown and back into a wicked skip-stepping pattern that fans of the whole Peverelist/Martyn/7even recordings dubstepXtechno style will easily find a spot ‘pon their deckles for.

Hi Rob,
Yet another fantastic show – top 5 stuff.
A question:
What is the underlying track you use for the introduction of the Von D track? It sounds sweet.

@ Sumbas … it’s still the V.Production track .. ‘Trycycle’ is 7 minutes long, but had to talk over it at that point !! …
