RANKING RECORDS – (LABEL INFO)
BACKGROUND:
Formed in early 2007, the Ranking Records collective started producing Drum and Bass and Dub in 2005. Inspired by the sound system culture of the Leeds dance music scene, they began producing Dubstep in 2006, and after receiving overwhelming hype over what was to be their first release, Miserere/Arigato, set up Ranking with a view to altering preconceptions about this relatively new genre: the Ranking philosophy is based on high quality production with sound system mentality.
CAREER MILESTONES:
Despite being a comparatively new label, Ranking Records has already made a significant impact on the underground music scene. Their first single, Miserere/Arigato, sold out within 2 weeks, and has been championed by Radio 1 DJ Maryanne Hobbs as “without question one of the most arresting debut records I’ve heard all year”. Ranking releases and dubs are receiving regular airplay on all major Dubstep radio stations, and their second release, Captain Hawkeye/Anger Dub is already gathering support from the likes of SubFm favourite BunZero, and Pitch Black producer/DJ Reso. Ranking’s current project is a collaboration with the award winning hip-hop group Foreign Beggars. From September ’07 Ranking will also be hosting a monthly Dubstep event in association with one of Leeds’ most well attended club nights, “Central Beatz”.

I’m glad I chose this session as my first in your series. Ranking Records made me pause at Quark’s Somertown and rewind a couple of times, only to be pleasantly surprised by the entire upcoming mix. Excellent! Two thumbs up from Headphone Commute!!!
